John...Teaching?

Sakastew School
I guess it was inevitable that, at some point in my life I would end up Teaching.  There being teachers in both my immediate family as well as cousins, uncles, aunts it was only a matter of time and necessity.  So come tuesday morning 9:00, as a Supply Teacher, I will begin teaching my first Elementary Computer class.  Sure the curriculum and class work is laid out for me, and I only have each grade for 30 minutes, but it is officially teaching nonetheless!  If it goes well, I may be a busy man.  I also thank the school for being polite by actually making it a computer class... something I am more comfortable with.  Wish me Luck!!!!

I  recieved a service call at the other end of town yesterday, and decided it was an opportunity to take my camera along to take a few pictures of the interesting things along the half hour walk across town.  During my trip I was picked up not by one but two police officers! The RCMP Officer that gave me a ride to my destination was a very polite lady, was curious where I was from, and was happy just to give me a ride.  On my way home, as I was snapping the following pictures, apparently the Chief saw me and asked one of his Constables from the Pukatawagan Police, to pick me up and see what I was up to.  The Constable was very polite, and curious.  His comment that most people prefer to take pictures of Puk from the air to avoid landing here was a perfect example of the sense of humour that is found in the community!  He brought me right to my door, and after talking in general, he offered to sit down sometime and tell me more about the history of Pukatawagan, as apparently it was quite the "Dodge City" back in the day.

Here are the pics of a few of the things Colette and I see walking to the Northern Store and back...

...Due to weather constraints we have not been on the water.  But when we do have an opportunity, there will be tons of pictures!

This look like alot of fun...
...and lets us know how much snow to expect!!!!

  2. Hi John & Colette
Congrats to your new job John...teaching computers....great fun!! I always told my friends you were a great teacher when it came to computers or repairs of any kind, always explaining clearly what you were doing and the next steps that need to be taken. So great for you!! How did Colette's first few days go? Hope that went well also.
Can't be too many strangers around the Puk if two times you were questioned on what you were doing and they were wanting to know what you were up to. Sounds like interesting contacts though. I'm sure you had lots to tell Colette when you got back.
Hope all continues to go well!!!
Wishing both of you the best next week Tuesday!!
    Love Mom

  3. Hi Wenda,

My first few days were busy but good. I have a lot of work to do. Presently with the system we're on, we have about 1000 + books to put into acquisitions. Currently, we are inputting about 10 books an hour. I am hopefully going in a couple times on the weekend and on the holiday Monday to switch the books around on different shelves. I have told staff that I need about 1 more week to mself working away in the library and come Monday, September 13th, I'll start taking classes into the library to have them check out books. Hope you're doing well! We miss not being able to come to the family birthdays but we'll have your calendar handy to call and wish everyone a happy birthday. We've tried to make bread twice but it has not risen enough. My mom is sending up vital wheat gluten to help with this. Although we are having trouble with the bread, the same recipe does make a great pizza crust:)

  9. Hi John & Colette
How are the school/librarian/teaching jobs going? I'm sure you have a very busy life now with both of you working and the dogs must miss you during the day. Not much time to bake bread I'm sure.
Ian & Tracy got married Saturday and it was a lovely day.
Did my first stint at the Hardware store last Friday and a most interesting crew, some others are retirees like me. They like to have fun so that is great. I got called at 10:30 when the truck was on its way and I can work as many hours as I want. Didn't catch on to that right away but that seems to be the way they work and the lady in charge finishes up whatever doesn't get done. Its a matter of matching special orders, and only putting stickers on items that aren't Home Hdwe. So quite easy to do.
Leaving for my Boston-Cape Cod bus trip on Monday. Looking forward to that.
    Take Care
